Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year is history, except for the bills. Pay them right away or make a plan to pay them off as soon as possible.
It’s #CyberMonday, which means you can finish your holiday shopping online. I want you to make the best of the day, but I don’t want the day to make the best of you.
First of all, make a list, stick to it and be careful out there people. It is estimated that 30% of all online shopping done today will be with a mobile device, that is your phone, tablet or even your watch. How amazing is our world?
Be bullet proof.
Secondly, make sure your passwords are solid. It may even be a good time to change them. And yes, I said them, because using one password for every account is just looking for trouble. You need a unique password for every account, your bank, your PayPal, your Amazon and … well you get the picture. You make think I’m over-protective, but I’m your Money Coach and I’m thinking of you.
For safety’s sake, do not shop using public wifi. Identity theft is a real possibility and you don’t even want to think about how quickly a thief can ratchet up your credit card bills or empty out your bank account.
Most of all, do your research and shop around, just because one store has one price, doesn’t mean that you can’t get a lower price at another online seller.
Finally, consider the delivery costs in your purchase because these can add up … quickly. After shopping around it may be feasible to make all your purchases through one merchant so you can bundle shipping costs. If your gift recipient is in another town or country, you may want to think about shipping the gift directly to them. It depends on you whether the personalization and gift-wrapping are worth your extra costs and time. I like traditions, and for me wrapping is one of them.
Loyalty has its benefits.
Be prepared, if there are promo codes available (you probably got a lot of emails from the loyalty programs you belong to offering them) be sure to use them, extra savings makes everyone extra happy. It’s also a great time to use those points you’ve been saving all year.
So go, shop for your friends and family from the comfort of your chair, just take my advice and do it with caution and the right safeguards in place.
